Geek New Year auf Deutsch

I’ll be spending Silvester — German New Year — in Berlin, enjoying the company of my friends as well as European hackers, copyfighters, and people who want to dance until dawn. Not sure if I’ll make it all the way to dawn, but I’m going to try. In the meantime, I’ve written up a few of my geeky resolutions for the new year, which include hanging out with more mechanical and civil engineers, as well as sharing more media and re-learning French. Read about my plans for a truly nerdy 2007 here. Happy New Year!

oh, wow! i hope you had a good one! i loooove silvester in berlin, where everybody (and i mean *everybody*) takes a bottle of champagne and a bag of fireworks outside at midnight and the whole city sets shit on fire and makes noise. it’s freezing, so the champagne hits you twice as fast. it’s amazing!

    do tell!

Yes, there was a lot of setting shit on fire. We walked through Kreutzberg, where the tradition is to throw firecrackers and fireworks at passerby. So we were hit with several firecrackers, and it felt sort of insane. But fun!
